The fourth edition of the Literary Festival of Ovar kicks off this Thursday and until Sunday, it proposes several initiatives with about 40 writers and illustrators, among which Rodrigo Guedes de Carvalho, Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio, and Jacinto Lucas Pires.
Promoted by the Câmara Municipal de Ovar, the event takes place in the Garden of the Caster and integrates the sale of books, discussion panels, spaces for interpretation of poetry, reading short stories, workshops, illustration, autograph sessions and several moments of conversation between writers and readers.
"We have committed to a cultural programming dynamic, bold and distinctive, that fits to multiple and diverse audiences", said to Lusa the president of the municipality, Salvador Malheiro.
According to the mayor, “the Literary Festival of Ovar was created to promote the book and literature in a relaxed and informal, as has been hallmark of the event, but more of that to encourage the reading and reveal new books and writers”, the event gives “to discover new themes and debates, different views and new visions".
The coordination of the festival it is up to the writer, Carlos Nuno Granja, who describes it as an event "with a alternate in the national panorama of literary events".
"The informal atmosphere and surroundings relaxed make socializing more widespread, the close proximity between the writers and the readers," he said, adding that this proximity helps to affirm "the importance of literacy in the construction of an identity and of free thought, in constant reflection, something that only books can give'.
The program of editing of 2018 of the Literary Festival of Ovar also includes the president of the Chamber considers it "a special moment" dedicated to the history of the county": the presentation of Volume 4 of the "Dictionary of the History of Ovar", that has the authorship of Alberto Sousa Lamy, and according to Salvador Malheiro, is "a work invaluable which registers and retrieves collective memories of the people vareiro".
